Hands-On Equine Classes

As an RTIP student, learning from hands-on experience is vital to understanding both the business aspect and equine interests of the racing industry. Students take classes at the UA's Equine Center to foster this educational experience, located just off campus at the Agricultural Center. Home to three Thoroughbred stallions, as well as a herd of both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse mares, students can take classes in Weanling Management (ANS 271A), Yearling Management (ANS 273), Introduction to Horsemanship (ANS 272), as well as Sales & Marketing Strategies of Performance/Race Prospects (ANS 371) where students prepare yearlings for the annual Thoroughbred Breeder's Association sale each fall. The farm also offers work-study placement as well as extracurricular activities such as the Horseman's Association and the Intercollegiate Equestrian Team.
