Eric Halstrom is the vice president of racing and general manager of racing at Horseshoe Indianapolis. A longtime racing executive, Halstrom has an extensive background in racetrack management. He is a graduate of the University of Arizona Race Track Industry Program and has served in several senior management roles in the racing industry including vice president of racing at Canterbury Park, vice president and general manager of racing operations at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots,  and vice president of operations at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs.

Halstrom met with students over Zoom and discussed a wide range of topics involved with running a race track including recruiting horses, allocating stalls, partnering with horsemen’s organizations, and takeout reduction strategies.

Robert Hartman, Race Track Industry Program Chair said “The significant growth in daily handle is a testament to the hard work of Eric and his team. Students learned the strategic and tactical decisions that led to these  increases in on-track and off-track wagering.”
